The benefits of online Yoga
Face to face Yoga just isn’t for everybody. This was highlighted when I talked with one of my Happy Healthy members recently and we discussed the benefits of online Yoga.
She told me how she found in person classes really uncomfortable. She didn’t feel like she had the right mat or the right gear. She felt awkward that everyone else seemed to know exactly what they were doing. This in itself can make it far from the relaxing experience that you are looking for from a Yoga class.
So it was my online classes that really got her into Yoga and transformed her Yoga experience.
And I get that. Online Yoga removes comparison with the people around you. You worry less about what people are thinking of you and it can be so much more convenient.
The thing is that it is great to get together in person, but the realities of life often get in the way. Kids routines, housework, jobs, life admin, all need attending to as well. In my experience online Yoga breaks down those barriers to actually developing a regular practice.
Personally it means that I don’t have to get a babysitter. I can fit in classes around my work and it cuts out the travel time before and after making it much more efficient.
We often feel that Yoga needs to be a lovely experience, but actually, when you start to make it a regular practice, to make it part of your life, I see it more as maintenance. Just like we look after our houses and our cars, with a regular Yoga practice we are looking after our bodies and our minds.Sometimes it feels difficult to fit in and you just don’t want to do it, so the key is to make it as easy as possible.
